How to Dispose of Four Major Household Appliances

Four major household appliances-A/C, TV, Refrigerator/Freezer and Washer/Dryer –are to be disposed of in compliance with “Home Appliance Recycling Act.”
That is to say, they cannot be taken out on designated pick-up days or brought into city’s disposal facilities. Their disposal must be done appropriately by one of the following methods.

(1) Ask the store you purchased the appliance in question at for a pick-up.
(2) Request the licensed private domestic wastes handling companies for a pick-up.
※ Both services require handling fee and recycling fee.
(3) Pay the recycling fee at a post office and personally take it to the designated collection site (Iwakuni Office, Ohtake Branch, NIPPON EXPRESS CO., LTD. at 3-13-16, Shin-minato-machi.)

Training Seminar for Volunteer Community Interpreters

Who’s eligible: Those who are interested in becoming a volunteer community interpreter (and are fairly good at conversational Japanese as well as another foreign language.)

Date/Time: Feb.5 (Sat), 13:30-16:00

Place: Training room-1, Iwakuni City Culture Center

Capacity: 30 people (FCFS)

Content:
Phase 1: Learning about the basic knowledge of community interpreter.
Phase 2: Demonstration of situational interpretation in daily life. (Demonstration is to be conducted basically in English and Chinese. Using of other languages can be arranged.)

Instructor: Naoko Takahara (National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in Chinese recognized by MLIT).

Fee: 500yen

Registration period: Jan.17 (Mon) – Feb.1 (Tue)

Cultural Property Fire Prevention Day Event

Firefighting drill will be conducted on Cultural Property Fire Prevention Day in bid to renew the public awareness of importance of structures designated as cultural property in Iwakuni.

Content: An informal conversational English class with volunteers from the base.

Fee: 400yen
