Ukai (cormorant fishing) at Kintaikyo Bridge

Ukai is a seasonal tradition in summer that takes place under the Kintaikyo Bridge. In front of the very eyes of spectators sitting on a sightseeing cruise boat, Usho (a master fisherman) in traditional outfit shows his effortless maneuvering of cormorants, the one-of-its-kind traditional fishing method, to catch Ayu (sweet fish) in the light shed on the dark river surface from the Kagaribi fire set on his boat with the Kintaikyo Bridge in the background. Don’t miss out on this valiant and fantastic night event.

What is a mutant strain of novel coronavirus?

It is said that a virus like novel coronavirus goes through minor changes in its genetic makeup as it continues to spread and transforms to a new mutant strain or a variant. The variant, having some changes in its character, may become more contagious.
But, the same infection prevention measures will stay in place for us against even the variant. It’s important to continue to adhere to the fundamental preventive measures for safe everyday social life.

○ Wear a mask.
○ Wash/sanitize hands/fingers frequently.
○ Watch social distancing(1m).
○ Frequent ventilation inside buildings. (Leave facing two doors wide open for a few min. every half an hour.)

Symptoms of COVID-19 may be mild at times. But when you have symptoms like fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue, or your physical condition seems to be different than usual, stop going to work or school to reduce the risk of infecting others around you.

Hygiene measures in the event of natural disasters like torrential rain

Should inundation above or under floor level result from heavy rain caused by the rainy season or the typhoons, first, clean the damaged area, second, wash and wipe the mud off the walls and floors and then dry them up.
It is also advised that before putting anything in the mouth, wash your hands thoroughly and cook your meals with adequate heat as the risk of food poisoning rises at this time of the year.
Those who’d like to get the flooded area disinfected, please contact Environment Protection Section after cleaning and drying up the area completely.
