English camp in Yuu

Fun-filled two days immersed in English

Two-day English camp was held at Yuu Youth Shizen-no-Ie (nature house) July 26 through July 27.  This year marked the second English Camp and 36 Elementary and Junior High school students were selected to participate in the event.  The number of applicants for the camp totaled about 7 times of those selected.

Children spent whole two days having fun at using English to communicate with non-Japanese staff, playing mini games, and enjoying outdoor cooking together.  In the beginning children looked nervous in an unfamiliar environment.  After going through the orientation given by the non-Japanese staff, they became relaxed and started to positively communicate with others in English.

After the fulfilling two days, the children said, “I learned that it’s a lot of fun to speak English,” “I want to use English much more often,” etc.
We will strive to come up with many programs to achieve our goal - “to make Iwakuni a town of Exchange in English.

GAME

↑ Among various mini games, English version of Darumasan-ga-koronda (Red Light, Green Light) was most loved by all.

COOKING

↑ Everybody confirmed the recipe in English and cooked very good curry rice together.
