Watch Out for Bears

Asiatic black bears become very active during this time of year. Enough precaution is advised when entering a mountain.

● What kind of animal are they?
○ They have good nose and ears. They can run very fast and are good at climbing and swimming.
○ Their sphere of action extends to alarming distance of 40-50km a day.

● Never attract bears to come close
○ They are talented in learning and once they eat man’s food they get hooked to its taste.Therefore, never leave or bury leftover meals or food scraps outside.

● In order not to encounter with a bear
○ In the dim light they get hooked on food and sometimes they don’t notice the presence of a man. Make sure you go down a mountain before dark.

● What if you encounter with a bear
○ Hold your breath and remain calm to check your situation. If you take off running suddenly, the bear starts chasing after you out of reflex.
○ If the bear notices you and stays still, start backing away slowly, facing and staring at him until he gets out of your sight.
○ If the bear is somewhere in the distance, stay away from the area slowly or let him notice about your presence by letting out your voice.
○ If the bear is coming closer, deflect his attention from you by dropping your belongings one by one using them as obstacles on his way towards you and back off.If he keeps on coming nonetheless, lock your hands behind your neck and get on your knees with your head all the way down and wait till the bear walks away.
○ Be extra careful when you see a baby bear, because the mother bear must be somewhere nearby.

World Diabetes Day and Lighting-up of Kintaikyo Bridge in Blue

The Kintaikyo bridge is lit up in blue, the symbol color of diabetes awareness, to promote the awareness campaign for prevention, treatment and cure of alarming rise of diabetes.
