This is a traditional summer fire festival dating back to mid Edo period to show reverence for a deity and to pray for the safety of the cattle by burning defilements of the world.
The festival is named “Three Pine trees in So” and held every year at three districts of Nakamura, Yamada and Ochiai. A number of torches are thrown up high in the air, targeting the pot at the top of a tall pine pole as if they are dancing in the summer night sky arching around the pole, which is literally jaw-dropping.
