One-minute Silent Prayer!

 Let’s offer one-minute silent prayer to express our sincere condolences to those who lost their lives in wars and to wish for the ever lasting peace. Sirens will be blown on the following dates and times.

Hashiramatsu of So in Shuto

 This is a traditional summer fire festival dating back to mid Edo period to show reverence for a deity and to pray for the safety of the cattle by burning defilements of the world.

 The festival is named “Three Pine trees in So” and held every year at three districts of Nakamura, Yamada and Ochiai.  A number of torches are thrown up high in the air, targeting the pot at the top of a tall pine pole as if they are dancing in the summer night sky arching around the pole, which is literally jaw-dropping.

Shuto Fireworks Festival

Place: Riverside of Shimatagawa Tenjin by Takamori Tenmangu Temple, Shuto-machi

The 52nd Nishikigawa Water Festival

Disaster Prevention Class for Foreign Residents

Targeted for: Foreigners residing in and around Iwakuni city

Date and time: August 24 (Sat), 13:30-16:30

Venue: Iwakuni Fire Department Disaster Prevention Center
※ Those who need free round bus ride must show up at the Iwakuni City Hall no later than 12:45.

Capacity: 40 people (FCFS)
